Designed to address the needs of inquisitive wine enthusiasts and aspiring wine professionals alike. This serious introductory tour of Italian wine is readily accessible as well as content-rich and full of cultural highlights that are as enlightening as they are engaging.
The course explores key wine regions from North to South and delivers concise information on forty of the country's most need-to-know wines.
IWS Prep is your passport to understanding Italian wine. It also acts as a stepping-stone to the internationally acclaimed Italian Wine Scholar certification program.
The course book and your instructor will guide you on a wine-focused journey through Italy, learning about legendary wines, regional dishes, landmarks, and cultural attractions as you “travel” throughout the country. The program has been divided into three sections — Northern Italy, Central Italy, and Southern Italy — within which a tantalizing palette of wines and cultural factors are showcased.

Italy is home to over 400 DOCs and DOCGs; IWS Prep introduces you to 40 of the most representative appellations from North, Central and Southern Italy. Grape varieties, wine profiles and labelling terms are all explored. Each wine is presented within a regional and cultural context. Local landmarks and traditional dishes are also highlighted.

· An initial Zoom session to introduce and provide an overview of the course.
· Classroom instruction consisting of 3 in-person sessions (approximately 8 hours total) in our New York City classroom.
· Extensive tasting of approximately 36 representative wines including white, red, and sparkling
· The Wines of Italy: Glass by Glass, a beautifully designed 125-page coursebook rich with information, photographs & maps.
· Access to high-quality e-learning activities designed to enrich the coursebook and support different learning styles; these activities include interactive e-learning modules with additional cultural highlights and quizzes.
· An optional 45-minute exam at New York Wine Studio comprised of 50 multiple-choice questions with a passing score of 60%.
